Open house held at Rockin Z Ranch

On January 23rd, the Rockin Z Ranch held an open house to showcase their three stallions, Omega Code, Fast Play and Service Stripe. A very good crowd was present at the Beggs, Oklahoma ranch which belongs to Dr. Robert Zoellner, O.D. He owns the stallions in partnership and the stallions were presented for viewing. A drawing for a free breeding to the stallion of choice was offered. There were also drawings for feed, shavings and other items. Attendees were fed hamburgers and hotdogs, with beverages.

Dr Zoellner, has two offices in the Tulsa area. He has been married for 25 years and has three children. Dr. “Z” as he is affectionately known to his friends became involved in the horse business about 10 years ago. He said that from an early age he loved horses and wanted to get involved with them. He purchased 2 two year olds at the Fasig Tipton sale at Lone Star Park, and raced them having moderate success.

Dr “Z” bred his first mare 7 years ago and his interest and love for horses grew. In February of 2006 he was able to close on the ranch in Beggs. The ranch consists of 200 acres, with a large barn with stalls and an arena in the center. There is also a large mare barn for outside horses, with a padded examination room with stocks. A new barn with runs and pastures is in the process of being built for the stallions, on the back area of the ranch. By building in this area the stallions will have no contact with the mares except at the time of breeding.

Dr. Z. currently has 12 mares that he intends to breed to support the farm stallions. One of the incentives to obtain the stallions was the change in the Oklahoma Bred breed back rule which takes effect with the 2010 breeding season. He also continues to purchase a couple of young horses to pin hook.

One of the first foals born at the new ranch was Peach Brew, who was the OTA champion 3 year old of 2009. She was also a multiple stakes winner, and as Dr. “Z” says his best moment to date, winning the Grade III Arlington Oaks in Chicago last year. This made Peach Brew his first stakes and graded stakes winner he has

bred.
